Review: Prime Target

I was caught up in this book from the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed it!!  A lot was happening in this book and, while it can be read as a stand-alone, some parts definitely made more sense if you have read her earlier books in the Holland Springs series first.  Ms. Valentine does a nice job of filling in one or two missing pieces from the Holland Springs series in this book.

Roman Smith lives a quiet, unassuming life as a bookseller far away from his family, the Bratva, leaving only when hired to assassinate someone on the family's orders.  He has a code and only kills those who truly deserve to die.  There is a woman in his life, Everly Andrews, to whom he is becoming attracted and who saves his life.

When Roman is ordered to kill an innocent man, he tries to walk away.  Unfortunately for him, someone does not want to let him go and uses Everly to try to force Roman to their will.

What follows is a captivating tale of Roman and Everly's fight to escape from a madman bent on revenge while not knowing who they can trust from Roman's past. Can he really trust his family or can those closest to Roman be bought to turn on him? I loved finding out!

I can't wait to read the next book in this new series.

Review: Luthecker

Luthecker by Keith Domingue

I was so caught up in this book, that I couldn't put it down and read it in one day. The story line was captivating and so possible.

Alex Luthecker is a man who has spent his life avoiding people because, with a glance, he is able to see who they truly are and how their life is going to end. When he reports a bomber to the police, he comes to the attention of Richard Brown, a man who, once he knows about Alex, will go to any lengths to find and control him in his quest for power. Nicole Ellis has a chance meeting with Alex and he saves her life. That encounter puts her in Richard Brown's sites as well.

With all of the technology advances at his disposable, will Richard be able to capture Alex and use him for his own purposes?

This suspense novel kept my attention from the first page. I enjoyed reading the story. The only problem that I had was that sometimes, there were grammar mistakes that I am not sure whether they were the author/editor or from the printing process. Overall, a very good book and I would recommend it to others.

Review - The Tourist

I enjoyed reading The Tourist by Olen Steinhauer.  While it started out slow, once it picked up, I couldn't put it down.  This book became fast-paced and was cleverly written.

Milo is a Tourist who works for a little known section of the CIA known as the Department of Travel.  He and the other Tourists are constantly traveling around the world on assignment under a variety of aliases.  All of the traveling and never knowing who to trust have worn Milo down and he finally quits the Department so that he can try to live a normal, quiet life while still working for the CIA out of their New York office at a desk job.  Unfortunately, he gets pulled back into the Department when he is accused of murdering an old colleague.  He is on the run trying to clear his name and finding evidence that points to another Tourist being the murderer.

After I was done reading it, I found myself thinking of Robert Ludlum's Bourne series. Milo, like Jason Bourne, works for a little known department of the CIA.  They both travel and use aliases all the time.  This wore Milo done so that he left the Department of Travel while Jason Bourne lost his memory because he was conflicted.  The difference between the two men being that when Milo was cleared, he was welcomed back.  While Jason is on the run from the CIA for a while before he was able to settle down to a normal life in the United States without having to fear for his life.
